Goin' Round Bandcamp #1 - The Doom & Gloom Edition

Wanna see your band's Bandcamp featured here? We welcome your submissions.

LUMBAR
(Southern Lord)

Psychological pain in extreme music is one thing but when it gets physical, things are bound to get unsettling. Lumbar is as intense and emotional as they come, having been created by multi-instrumentalist Aaron Edge (Brothers of the Sonic Cloth, Roareth) as an outpouring of his personal struggle with a diagnosis of mutiple sclerosis earlier this year. With the help of close friends Mike Scheidt (YOB, Vhöl) and Tad Doyle (TAD), this is an incredibly intense and claustrophobic journey, one that leaves no space for comfort. [PA]

RITES
(self-released)

Galway's Rites have decided to call it a day with the recent release of their sophomore effort but they leave a respectable, if short, legacy. If doom-laden atmospheres with sludgy riffs coupled with faster paced rockers in the vein of High On Fire are your cup of tea, you should take notice of this Irish 4-piece, even if they already said farewell. While not breaking any new ground, this is downtuned bliss which goes to show that doom and gloom with a penchant for headbanging is definitely no foreign language in shamrock land. [PA]

YIDHRA
(self-released)

You pray at the altar of Saint Vitus and Trouble? Lovecraft's dark imagery an inspiration? Looking for something contemporary that emulates the sound of old with traditional doom structures? Look no further because Los Angeles' YIDHRa cover all the aforementioned bases. Sometimes it just feels good to bask in those gloriously predictable heavy riffs and let yourself go with the flow. With a history of tragedy to go with it - original singer sadly got paralyzed from the neck down resulting from a car accident - this is just the ticket and a great one at that. [PA]
